Travelling to France via Dover

The Highways Agency is planning to carry out major road improvements on both carriageways and all five roundabouts on the A20 in Dover, from the Western Heights roundabout to the Eastern Docks roundabout.

The work is due to commence on Monday 3 March 2008 and is expected to take between 12 and 15 weeks to complete. The works will be suspended for the following periods:

Easter - from 1200hrs on 20 March until 1200hrs on 25 March
Bank Holidays - from 1200hrs on 1 May until 1200hrs on 6 May and from 1200hrs on 22 May until 1200hrs on 27 May

With the exception of the roundabouts, each phase of the work will require single lane closures during the day which will result in reduced road capacity. Between the hours of 2000hrs and 0500hrs one entire carriageway will be closed so diversions will be in place. When work is carried out on the roundabouts themselves, the A20 will be completely closed in both directions.

During the course of the work various diversion routes will be utilised, all of which will be clearly sign-posted.

The Highways Agency grades the anticipated level of disruption caused by major road improvement works, and this scheme is seen as severe, which means they expect driving times to the port to increase by 30 minutes.

We are sadden by the news that Big John has passed away. He had been in poor health for a while .

A leading light of naturism in Sussex, particularly at Four Seasons Sun Club and the swim in Brighton.

John's funeral will take place at Worthing Crematorium on Friday 8th February
at 1500.

New items on the web site

We are running an experiment with links to a photographic web site: DOMAI.

This is an affiliated web site, so if anyone signs up for their content from our link then we get a commission. If this goes well we will keep the link, if we get negative feedback then we will remove it.

We do this to keep the subscription costs of the magazine low, and to offset the web hosting costs.

We are sure we get some traffic to the site looking for this type of content, so we may as well send them somewhere when they can get it, and we all benefit as well.

DOMAI is a 'nice' website, the pictures are pleasant and would not look out of place in our own publication.

We have had good results from the 'Nudist friends' link, so we have high hopes for DOMAI.

Your thoughts would be appreciated.

Michael Pusey

We are saddened by the news that Michael Pusey has died. Michael was well known at Watford Swim and the evenings at St Albans.

My personal memories are sharing interesting conversations on the SOC walks where Michael's humour and great knowledge kept me amused and informed.

He will be missed by those that knew him.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

Funeral at Garston Crematorium in the large chapel. 4 January 2008 at 2PM

Suzanne and David have just returned from a 2 week 'business' trip to Fuerteventura.

Big pile of snail mail, dozens on emails all confounded by the Christmas mail clogging up our letterbox so we will be a while processing all of this and then business should return to normal.

Clothes optional petition to HM Government

The petition raised by D. Collins asking effectively that the UK has a
similar level of freedom to that enjoyed in Denmark is due to expire
of the 27th December.  Some of you have already signed it but if you
have not and feel that the petition is worth supporting then the more
signatures the better.  I do appreciate that the person who wrote this petition may have done better had he used a spell checker first.

The wording is quite different to the "clothing optional" petition
which closed in August and received what can only be described as an
unthinking rebuff from government.  This petition will likely be
similarly dismissed but they cannot reasonably say that it is a matter
purely for local authorities.   The Danes achieved their freedom by
direct protest back in the 1950's and it may well be that in the UK
and mainland Europe only more militant naturist action will change
things.

Top Sante magazine is looking to shoot five women, aged 25-55, showing off the surprising naked bits their really proud of - women who are proud of their small chests, wobbly tummies, big bottoms. The aim of this line-up feature is to be empowering for women and to make our readers feel really positive and inspired. Somerset Strolling Bears (Naturist walking group)
The Polar Bear section of the Somerset Strolling Bears continues to walk throughout the winter. Our next walk is Thu Nov 29 on Dartmoor. Our last walk at Minehead resulted in this quote.

I never thought I would enjoy crawling naked through a bramble patch half way up a cliff face.

Norfolk Broads River Trip weekend 2008

Why not make a weekend of this event. Friday the 4th of July on the Mississippi paddle steamer 'Southern Comfort' and stay the weekend at Merryhill and join in with their Summer Ball on the 5th July.
More details coming soon about the arrangements at Merryhill, but remember places on the boat are limited so do not miss out on this fabulous event. More info here.

Updates to the web site

Nothing lasts forever, so the time had come to change a few photographs. It gives the site a fresh look to returning visitors.

As this blog is for the latest news items, I have deleted the original NEWS page. I think blogging made it redundant, and it was also a long way out of date.

And we have some gratuitous commercial advertising. We have to make some money somehow to keep it all running.

Onwards and upwards, progress is relentless.
